First Anniversary of the Welcome Corps

Today marks the one-year anniversary of the launch of the Welcome Corps, the private sponsorship program within the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. In its first year, the Welcome Corps mobilized more than 15,000 Americans to welcome more than 7,000 refugees from around the world to our country. These refugees are now beginning to settle into communities across the United States, with nearly 100 arriving since we first welcomed privately sponsored refugees on World Refugee Day in June.

OP-ED: How California stepped up to help small businesses

California’s small businesses are the lifeblood of our state. At 4.1 million strong, they
employ nearly half of the state’s workforce and create two-thirds of net new jobs. As a
decades-long small business advocate and former CEO of the Fresno Metro Black
Chamber of Commerce, I saw firsthand how the pandemic devastated California’s
small businesses, especially in the service industry. I know that for small business owners,
employees aren’t just employees, they’re family.
